How To Serve Your Kids Nutritious Meals This Holiday Season.

Published by momswallet at 12:53 am under Family Edit This

It is that time of the year again. The holiday season, a season of good cheer, and lots of good food too. We all want to eat healthily at this time but it can be quite a challenge.

However, with careful planning, you can provide your kids with  the right nutrition all through the season.

(1.)    When shopping for groceries, try starting at the fruits  and vegetables  section. Buy fruits and veggies in different colors. Encourage your kids to come up with different ideas for making smothies, pudding and shakes.

(2.)   Your next stop will be the grain products. Choose grain products that are low in fat, sugar or salt.

(3.)   When buying milk, you may want to stick to skim, 1 or 2% will be great. If your child cannot drink milk, soy beverages, the fortified kind is a good alternative. I also buy low fat yogurt.

(4.)   For meat,I buy lean meat and also remove any visible fat I may find while washing the meat. I remove skin from poultry and then roast,or bake because these methods of cooking uses little or no fat.

Encourage kids to enjoy more of home-made fruit juices, rather than the store bought kind which are often full of sugar. I encourage drinking lots of water too.

Kids learn mostly by imitation and will naturally follow your lead. So, be a good example.

Do you have any tips on having a nutritionally safe holiday season?

I got a juice extractor and got the kids to have fun making their own juice with their favorite fruits. they are so proud of their ‘juicies’ and i have practically eliminated processed juice. except during the occasional parties. sometimes they even want to take their home-made juice to these events to impress their friends

Number one is a huuuuge thing with me… I don’t make our juice (because I don’t have a juicer or blender currently) but I do go out of my way and spend the extra money on 100% juice products.

I refuse to give my child sugar water in it’s place lol

It makes for wonder discussions in the middle of the juice aisle at Giant. “But Mooooooommy I liiiiiiike sugar water!”
